Church History
- 1998 – 2002 House fellowship at Billy Wong’s house in Taverham once a month then moved to meet twice a month at Taverham Village Hall.
- 2003 – With the support from the then Minister Rev John Peters, the Chinese congregation moved to Sprowston Methodist Church, Wroxham Road for Sunday worship initially on alternative Sunday and then every Sunday. Margaret Hardingham from Sprowston Methodist Church and Kit Holland from the Chinese Congregation were appointed as liaisons between the two congregations. (This marked a significant step in establishing the church in its own right). A shared agreement was established for the Chinese Congregation for the use of the Church at Wroxham Road.
- The Chinese Congregation spent eleven years sharing spaces at Sprowston Methodist Church and was well-supported by Rev Nigel Fox, the then minister at Sprowston Methodist church and their members.
- 1st September 2014 – The Chinese Congregation joined the Norwich Methodist Circuit with the support of Superintendent Minister Rev John Fenn as an independent church. The Chinese church was offered to take over the day-to-day running of Bowthorpe Road Methodist Church and became the Management Trustee on the 18th of December 2014.
- Celebration Service was held at the Sprowston Methodist Church with speakers Rev Lo Lung Kwong and District Superintendent Rev Julian Pursehouse on the 1st of September 2014.
- 18th January 2015 – First Sunday service was held at the Bowthorpe Road Methodist Church.
- During the church’s rebuilding in the summer of 2017, Bowthorpe Road church’s services and meetings were moved temporarily to Chapel Field Methodist Church.
- Building funds came from Connexion, District, Circuit, Charities, and Bowthorpe Road church members, friends and families. The Grand Opening Dedication service was held on the 26th of November 2018.
- First baptism at Bowthorpe Road took place on the 9th of December 2018. 8 baptised and one confirmation.
- Pastor Edmond Tsui retired at the end of August 2021.
- Pastor Stephen Lau from Hong Kong took over as the new pastor (in charge) of Bowthorpe Road Methodist Church on the 1st of September 2021.
- The church’s missions continue to diversify in order to serve different communities, including new immigrants from Hong Kong and also our local community.
- Assistant Lay Pastor Mike Ng started in September 2022 at Bowthorpe Road to support the International Congregation, university, and young people.
